Building on the success of its first ever Open House in 2019, FANUC UK will be hosting a five-day exploration into the future of automation, between Monday 1st and Friday 5th November 2021.
Hosted in a COVID-secure environment at our UK headquarters at Ansty Park, Coventry, The Future of Automation Open House will host a series of talks, panel discussions and interviews with some of the leading lights in British industry, tackling the most pressing issues facing UK manufacturers:

Meet the speakers at this year’s Open House event.
Luisa has worked in the Apprenticeships and Training sector since 2004, including Private Training Providers, Colleges and Awarding Bodies such as SQA and The CMI. Today, she is Deputy Director for Sales, Marketing, Recruitment and Communications at MTC Training, specialising in effective employer engagement to identify and fulfil current and future skills needs.
As Chief Executive Officer of Recycleye, Victor is responsible for the company’s team of 14 engineers as well as Recycleye’s strategic roadmap. Victor holds an MEng in Environmental Engineering (1:1) from Imperial College London and was most recently named in Forbes 2021, 30 under 30 for social impact list.
As Chief Executive of MK:U, Lynette is leading the development of the proposed new model university in Milton Keynes. Cranfield University is lead higher education partner working with Milton Keynes Council to develop the plan for MK:U, with the aim to open in 2024. MK:U will deliver flexible, business-focused education based on a digital economy curriculum.
Phil is the MTC’s automation technical specialist. His focus is assisting businesses to adopt automation. From building automation into products, through to building systems that manufacture products, he has been on both ends of the supply chain. Phil is delighted to be back at FANUC to discuss automation in UK industry.
Andrew Jewell attended Kingston Polytechnic/University and achieved a BSc (Hons) Degree in Chemistry with Business Administration. He is also a past Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC). For over three decades, Andrew has been involved in promoting manufacturing software solutions and has a substantial knowledge of implementing (real-time) MES/SFDC/Industry 4.0 into various manufacturing industry sectors.
Natalie is driven, ambitious, and resilient leader in business. Konrad has 23 years of broad experience in use of robotics, factory automation and IoT in metal processing industries. In 2007, Konrad joined FANUC and established FANUC Robotics Poland. After successful business development of robotics and machine tool businesses for FANUC in Poland Konrad joined FANUC Europe in 2014. In the role of IoT Business Director Konrad employs broad experience in new business start-ups, new product strategies, creation of partner channels and business process transformation. He uses his expertise to help FANUC´s customers to increase efficiency of their manufacturing processes, market competitiveness and success.
Phil has over 20 years of automation sales experience across many different industries. He is responsible for overseeing the growth of Rockwell Automation products, solutions, and services at end user customers across Northern Europe, ensuring the continued expansion of Digital Transformation that helps our customers become more productive and sustainable.
Mike Sykes is the Automation Systems Manager at Yamazaki Mazak UK Ltd. His role within the company involves developing Automation Solutions to integrate with Mazak’s UK and Japanese built machines for Mazak’s European Market. Mike joined Mazak 25 years ago and has worked closely with Fanuc for many years on a wide variety of projects
35 years in the Plastics Industry. Experience in all sectors, including Automotive, Packaging and Medical. Passion for developing complete Turnkey systems with full understanding of the Product functional and performance requirements.
Dr Barry Henley is adviser to Birmingham City University on knowledge transfer and a member of Aston University Business Advisory Council. He has a first degree in Chemical Engineering and a doctorate in management. He has held Chief Executive roles in companies in the UK, Singapore and Australia in security and fire protection.

Professor Phil Webb is the Head of the Centre for Structures, Assembly and Intelligent Automation at Cranfield University and holds a Royal Academy of Engineering and Airbus Chair. He has significant experience in research and teaching in advanced manufacturing automation and robotics and has published widely on the subject.
Mike has a passion for working with companies to help them unlock the benefits of digital manufacturing, and is the Connected Enterprise ambassador for Rockwell Automation. Mike is passionate about helping unlock the potential that a digital manufacturing strategy can provide, utilizing and implementing both existing and disruptive technology.
Dee is responsible for the National Competitions-based training programme, careers strategy and the equity, diversity, and inclusion programme. Delivering this UK wide activity engaging education and employers to raise apprenticeship and technical education standards for all young people to succeed.
Leigh has decades of experience in metalworking, manufacturing and automation. From a maintenance engineer to mechatronics and eventually in sales and business development, his mission has always been to understand and deliver value to his customers. Currently Leigh is a head of sales at Fastems, responsible for the northern European region, including the UK.
Julian joined Polestar as a Cybersecurity Engineer and now has +25 years of experience working with both Information and Operational Technology in industrial networking environments. Today he leads the Industrial IT consulting, implementation and OT/IT integration team for global brands, including Carlsberg, Delta Airlines, and RB; helping them to gain competitive advantages through data acquisition, transferring, and analytics.
Phil Atkins, is a Knowledge Transfer Associate System Architect with Birmingham City University placed within Conway Packing Services, an established export packing firm based in Tipton. A Birmingham City University Graduate, Phil obtained Bachelor’s degree in Enterprise Information Systems in 2017. His role, to deliver a smart system utilizing software applications available to all SME’s combined with widely available off the shelf hardware to deliver a distributed computing solution.
Dipl.-Ing. MATTHIAS MEYER, joined Heller Machine Tools Limited, Redditch as managing director in January 2015. Heller are a machining centre manufacturer and supplier and subsidiary of Gebr. Heller Maschinenfabrik GmbH, headquartered in Nuertingen, near Stuttgart. Since July 2021 Mr. Meyer additionally joined the management board in Germany as managing director for Operations.
Dr Charlotte (Katie) Blake is the General Manager for the Midlands Centre for Data-Driven Metrology. She has a technical background in multi-disciplinary research for additive manufacturing and prior qualifications in biomedical sciences. During her PhD, Katie was awarded the tri-campus Dean Moore Scholarship and competed at national competitions including STEM for Britain. Katie is now involved in the evolution and writing of research proposals and the management of ongoing research projects across a portfolio of advanced manufacturing technologies. She has engaged with industrial and academic partners to deliver research through a range of technology readiness levels and end-use applications.
Dr Adam Thompson has been a post-doctoral researcher in the University of Nottingham (UoN) Manufacturing Metrology Team (MMT) since October 2018. Prior to this position, Adam completed his PhD in UoN’s MMT, entitled “Surface texture measurement of metal additively manufactured parts by X-ray computed tomography”. Adam’s research background is in surface topography measurement of additively manufactured parts, authoring papers on the measurement of metal and polymer parts. Adam also has expertise across metrology, having undertaken postdoctoral projects in performance verification of fringe projection and X-ray computed tomography measurement. Adam teaches numerous undergraduate and postgraduate courses in basic and advanced metrology. Prior to his PhD, Adam taught high school physics.
Chris is the Director of the Industrial Policy Research Centre (IPRC) at Loughborough University, Director of Industrial Policy at the MTC, and was the MP for Warwick and Leamington, 2010-2017: a member the BEIS Select Committee and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Manufacturing.
